This Terms of Use and Node Lease Agreement (“Agreement”) is a legal contract between the Unity Nodes Operator (UNO) (“Lessor”) and the Unity Nodes Lease Operator (ULO) (“Lessee”). By accepting the hardware and participating in the Unity Nodes project, the ULO agrees to the following terms:
- PROVISION OF HARDWARE
The UNO shall provide the ULO with a mobile device (the “Phone”) for a primary term of one (1) year. The Phone remains the property of the UNO for the duration of the lease term unless the conditions in Section 7 are met. - UPTIME & PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
- The ULO acknowledges that the value of the Unity Nodes project depends on network reliability.
- Threshold Compliance: The ULO must ensure the Phone remains powered on, connected to the internet, and running the required applications. Uptime must not fall below the minimum threshold specified in the specific lease dashboard/agreement.
- Monitoring: Failure to maintain the uptime threshold may result in the suspension of rewards or termination of the lease.
- Non-Unity Tasks: The ULO is free to use the provided mobile device for their own purposes as long as the Unity application is always running in the background.
- CONNECTIVITY & NETWORK TESTING
- Minimum Requirement: The Phone must be connected to a stable Wi-Fi network at all times.
- Preferred Connectivity: It is highly preferred that the ULO provides a cellular data plan for the device. Keep the device connected to the Wifi network. The application runs tasks on both networks when available.
- Enhanced Rewards: ULOs who utilize a cellular network contribute to critical network testing tasks. Consequently, these users may be eligible for higher reward tiers and greater participation opportunities compared to Wi-Fi-only users.
- OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
To ensure the node remains synchronized and secure, the ULO agrees to:
- Daily Check-ins: Manually check the Unity application at least three (3) times per day to verify connectivity. Participate in new tasks when made available.
- Updates: Promptly install all system updates for device security and safety. The UNO will provide Unity application updates to the phone through device management.
- Compliance: Adhere to all technical requirements and community guidelines issued by the Unity Nodes project (https://unitynodes.io/).
- PROGRAM PARTICIPATION
Maintaining the node grants the ULO the right to participate in various ecosystem programs. These programs allow ULOs to earn awards based on their node’s performance, data contribution, and task completion. These rewards are “self-awarded” through the protocol based on meeting the criteria defined by the project. - LEASE DURATION
The lease is valid for a period of one (1) year from the date of lease being granted. - LEASE EXPIRATION & DEVICE OWNERSHIP
Upon the completion of the full one-year lease term, the ULO has the following options:
- Renewal: The ULO may choose to renew the lease for another term to continue earning rewards with the current hardware.
- Non-Renewal (Ownership Transfer): If the ULO chooses not to renew after the successful completion of the one-year term, they may keep the Phone as their personal property with no further obligation to the UNO, provided all lease requirements were met throughout the year.
- TERMINATION
The UNO reserves the right to terminate this agreement and request the return of the hardware if:
- The ULO consistently fails to meet uptime thresholds.
- The ULO attempts to tamper with the device hardware or software in a manner that harms the network.
- The ULO violates the Unity Nodes project’s core terms of service.
- LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
The UNO provides the hardware and software “as is.” The UNO is not responsible for any network charges incurred by the ULO (cellular data costs) or any indirect damages resulting from the use of the device.
By accepting the device and activating the node, you (the ULO) confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms of Use.
